Twelve Healthy Living Tips

As a yoga teacher, many of my yoga students ask what they can do on a daily basis to cultivate and deepen their understanding of living a healthier yogic lifestyle.

Here, in no particular order are ten habits to adopt on a daily basis to keep you in the flow and maintain your inner yoga glow.

Top Ten Healthy Living Tips

1. As you wake up in the morning, spend the first few minutes in silence and quiet reflection. Quietly observe how you feel and make a conscious effort to gently stretch yourself awake and enjoy the feeling of being alive.

2. Take pleasure in the simple things in life – for instance, notice any random acts of kindness in yourself and others.

3. When you eat take a few moments to give thanks for your food, to acknowledge your role in the whole food cycle process and to eat with a sense of reverence and respect for your food.

4. Acknowledge others, take time to say please and thank you, especially thank you, at every opportunity you can.

5. Be genuine and thoughtful in the way you speak and listen. Give friends and family the space to talk and share what’s on their hearts, without imposing your opinions and comments.

6. Do some gentle yoga stretches every day. Spend 5 – 20 minutes practicing your favourite postures. Choose a time that suits you, maybe an early morning before you go to work sequence or a more calming routine before you go to bed.

7. Breathe. During your day, take time to take a break and breathe. A few rounds of deep yogic breathing will instantly revive and lift your spirits.

8. See the beauty and good in all situations. Sometimes life gets you down and you find it hard to feel upbeat and cheerful. That’s OK, just hold in your heart the truth that there is always beauty to be found in any situation. The saying every cloud has a silver lining is true.

9. Be spontaneous but not reckless, just allow yourself the space and time to follow your intuition and see where it leads. If the time isn’t right for you to jump up and down in puddles, then just close your eyes and imagine yourself doing it instead.

10. Keep your heart open to love. Life has a way of shutting you down, or making you close your heart and put the thorns up. You only have one life, so take a chance on love.

11. Be creative. What childhood passion have you let go of? Reclaim your childhood hobbies and who knows, you could even make it a business opportunity.

12. Give yourself a hand and mini facial massage before going to bed. Enjoy the sense of calm and relief as you massage your daily cares away and invite calm and tranquillity into your sleep.

As you can see, there are numerous ways in which you can recapture and retain that post yogic bliss in your everyday life. Start small, maybe just pick two or three of the above healthy living tips and see what a difference it makes to your sense of well being and vitality.

Simple Healthy Living Tips

Everyone daydreams of being fitter, healthier, slimmer, richer, or happier. Do you fall asleep at night your mind bursting with ideas and when you wake do you smile, glad to be alive, eager and keen to get stuck into your day? Or are you stuck in a rut; tied to a job you hate or relationship which drags you down and you long to break free from?

In today’s post, I will share with you five simple healthier living tips which you can use to encourage you to see how easy it is to find a way to make your dreams reality.

Five Healthier Living Tips To Help You Bring Your Dreams To Life

1. Look after your health

This is the key ingredient in dream building. A healthy body is vital to your well being. Take a rain check for a moment, be honest and take a look at your physical, emotional, spiritual and even financial health. How do you feel about what you see? Are there areas you would like to change and be different?

Action Tip: If there is something you would like to improve, whether it’s a matter of losing a couple of pounds, saving £5 a week or taking the bus and walking to work rather than driving, making a conscious effort to do this as you will feel virtuous and better inside.

2. Nurture and Nourish Your Core

Take time to rest and look after yourself. From a yogic perspective you foster your inner beauty through the natural care of your body. The yogi sees their physical body as a temple that houses your soul. True beauty is the reflection of your inner self radiating and touching others.

Action Tip: Practice simple self care techniques such as dry skin brushing, steaming your face, or even giving yourself a hand massage to help bring your mind and body into alignment.

3. Be Excited

Chances are you are so bogged down with the mundane matters of your everyday life, you have forgotten the joy of natural spontaneous laughter and fun.

Have you seen a child run, jump and SPLASH! feet first into a puddle only to be dragged away by his mother and told off for getting his feet wet?

Action Tip: Well, just for today, be like the child splashing in the puddle, get your feet wet, make that phone call, write that letter, order that book, just take one small step and do something that will make your heart sing and eyes sparkle.

4. Record Your Dream

There is power in the written or spoken word. Take your time and find someone you trust and share your story and inner heart song. If there isn’t anyone in your life who you can do that with, email me your thoughts and I will hold your space and pray for you till you can hold your own space.

Action Tip: Write your dreams down, write a poem or if you prefer audio record or draw it. Whatever your favourite medium is, just do it. And remember you can send your creations to me.

5. Release Attachment To The Outcome

Yoga philosophy encourages to say your piece and then to keep your peace. To learn how to be still and release all expectation and desires to how you think your dream world should be. Yes, it is good to be clear how you want life to be, yet the essence of life is to be open to all possibilities. You never know what is around the corner and the more you focus on a particular thought and, if it’s in alignment with your soul purpose, the more you attract opportunities, to make your dream come true-one step at a time.

Action Tip: Learn to meditate or practice a mind-body activity, such as yoga, as a way to deepen your spiritual connection and understanding.

As you can see, there are many ways to reach your goals; everything starts from you taking the time and energy to look after your most precious asset, your health, and as you go along, rather than bemoan the fact you aren’t where you want to be, acknowledge where you are, record where you wish to be, release attachment to the outcome and always have fun as you take care of yourself.

A Healthy Living Tip I Learned in Paris

It seems so difficult at times to stay on track with a healthy lifestyle and healthy diet. If it’s not one thing it’s usually another that keeps us from reaching positive results. This article will provide some healthy living tips that might just keep you on track in accomplishing your goals.

Healthy Living Tip-Eat Smaller Portions Like The Europeans

When visiting Paris several years ago, I was amazed that so many natives were carrying a weight that seemed to be in proportion to their bodies. I was window shopping downtown, and was drooling as I looked into some of the bakery’s that were loaded with the most “fattening” looking food on the planet. Pastries that were covered in cream and chocolate, that sent out an aroma that just lured you into the shop.

After purchasing my tasty delight, I proceeded to sit on one of the small bistro table’s right outside the bakery. There were several “Parisian’s” that were sitting nearby, all of whom were engaging in similar delights. As I went full bore into my weighty pastry, I noticed that the single item they had purchased was broken up into four smaller pieces.

Initially, I had believed that they were just trying to save a buck, but after seeing this “strange behavior” on many different occasions, and in many different restaurants, I realized it was part of a healthy lifestyle. The Europeans have it right when it comes to “portion sizing” their meals. It truly is not as important as what you are eating, then as to how much of it you are eating. Picking up some healthy living tips in Paris made the trip worthwhile after all.

So now I am trying to implement this same rational back in the good old U.S.A. Unfortunately, I am sitting here finishing up my “Big Mac” sandwich, which for some reason is so difficult to break into pieces. What lessons did I actually learn in Paris? That portion sizing is of prime importance. Eating what you enjoy, but just eating smaller amounts. I guess the old saying, “everything in moderation” can hold true at times.

Discover the Easy Ways to Lose Weight

Here is a Healthy Living Tip: There is something that I really don’t understand about life here in America. Why doesn’t more people care about their health when there are so many easy ways to lose weight? The quality of our health should be our number one concern. If we don’t take care of ourselves, then who will?

“Health tips and trick”

A friend of mine just turned 60 and he was talking about how old he was getting and how he could no longer do the things he used to. I just could not wrap my head around his comment. What you have to understand is that he is around 400 pounds and he’s only 5’8″.

I have following healthy living tips for over 35 years. I’m all but a vegetarian (I do eat seafood on rare occasion), and I eat healthier than anyone I know. And at 59, I still love mountain biking.

When I was in my early 40’s and a hardcore mountain biker, I had one of those life changing moments happen to me. I had just climbed a 2 ½ mile climb and about 2 minutes behind me came this old guy. He wasn’t even winded! He had no teeth and a French accent. I finally had to ask him how old he was. He told me he was 63.

Right at that moment I knew that at age 63 I could be enjoying this sport and still kicking butt on 90% of the riders.

What’s important to me is the quality of my health when I am 63. I don’t want to be 63 and suffering from obesity, or arthritis, or emphysema, high blood pressure, or whatever. My buddy is settling for a great deal less than what he has to. He’s either ignorant, lazy, or, I’m sorry, just too brainless to do anything about it.

Sure, I have talked to him about the easy ways to lose weight, Sure, I have tried to help him understand all of the easy ways to lose weight, but he just dosn’t want to change

I would rather be healthy, active and enjoying my life, than be a fat couch potato, unhealthy, getting winded just walking to the frig, and being less than what I could be.

Do not get me wrong, I love my buddy of 34 years, and I love ice cream and chocolate, homemade chocolate chip oatmeal cookies, oh, and pizza too, but I realize the difference of eating these foods as treats, and not as my daily staples.
